Bank notes removed from legal tender effective Jan. 1, 2021

The $1, $2, $25, $500, and $1,000 bank notes will be removed from legal tender as of January 1st, 2021.

This means that these notes cannot be used at stores for purchasing items. However, these bank notes are still considered money and can only be redeemed at financial institutions after January 1st.

Just like the penny that went out of circulation, Access Credit Union will still accept these bills for deposit but will not be giving them out.

Members may wish to keep these bills commemoratively as a collection and redeem them at a later date, if you choose to.

If you have questions regarding these bills, please contact our Member Solutions Centre at 1-800-264-2926.
